A walk in dandelion fields

This week was so busy I thought I’ll lose my mind! I needed to do so many things, and my failed health definitely didn’t help me at all. But at least by now I’m finally getting a grip of everything and can finally focus on the important things. But, well, at least I always have my cute soft kitties to cuddle with. And let me tell you – their purrs heal better than any medicine! Like, how can you feel bad, when you walk into the room and see something like this?

When I was still feeling good and had some free time, my fingers were itching to do something. And so I found yarn, which I bought a while ago and started knitting. I didn’t really have any clear idea of the sweater, so I just went with the flow. I knew that even though the yarn is thick, I wanted it to look “summery” and fresh. And to me there’s one thing that remind me of re-born nature and late spring – dandelions. So why not to make a Dandelion sweater?

1

Doesn’t look bad after all, huh? It required some precision to make it, but it was so much fun. And oh, I love that bright coral color!

I have only two sweaters available in sizes S and XXS. Yarn is 100% polyacrylic.

This sweater is sold out.

And even though the sweater was so bright and nice, my model Beliza was all grumpy and sleepy. Nothing helped – no treats and no toys were interesting to her. Maybe it was the rainy weather that caused it, or maybe she just didn’t get enough of her beauty sleep. Anyway, we managed to work something out and got some nice pictures!

Bright reds and puffy fringes

The last few days  I’ve been knitting and crocheting day and night. Literally. And now, as I am writing this post it’s exactly 4:18 am. Do I feel like sleeping? Nope. Am I tired? Can’t be sure, but my back would say a definite yes. So what do you do, when you have insomnia? In my case, you watch something and knit knit knit. Meanwhile Bacha is sitting on my laps, purring and giving me constant kisses. She’s such a sweetheart, it always seems that she understands so much more than I think she does. Cats are absolutely amazing animals sharing their unconditional love with us. 🙂

Anyway, so as I said before I was knitting loads of things. And here I represent one of the shirts I crocheted – a light, bright colored summer sweater with cute fringes all around it. This sweater is perfect for every naked sun worshipper as it protects sensitive skin from the sun, but also is very light, because it’s made of 100% cotton.

2

Actually, I’ve had different plans for this yarn and I even started crocheting an absolutely different sweater. But after some time I realized, that it will take loads of time to finish it. Yep, my imagination again went wild and created something that is so much harder to fulfill in the reality. So then this boho-kitty fringy sweater was born. It is available in 3 colors: bright red, medium blue and white as snow.

The sweater is available for purchase in my Etsy shop right over here: Fringy sweater.

And here are some pictures of Bacha enjoying her photoshoot. It was one of the lightest weight sweaters she has ever worn, so she definitely didn’t think twice about the play time!

What? Photoshoot? Again???

Oh, wait! It looks like a playtime! Interesting…

Time, spent with cats, is never wasted

I still remember those dark winter evenings, when in my childhood mother and sister sat down in the warm kitchen to knit socks and mittens, while father was making the yarn from just washed and dried wool, which we got from my grandfather. Those long conversations, jokes, the smell of wool and that sound of needles still bring me that peace, where the time stops… As I grew bigger, so did my first tryings to knit, later – to crochet. Starting from simple things like scarfs, eventually I started to knit also socks and mittens, crochet various serviettes and decorations. And even when I left my parent’s home and went to college, crafts always stayed as one of my biggest passions and most comfortable way to both relax and express myself.

But the idea of making cat clothes didn’t come to me until the mid 2013. I was always a cat person and often appreciated their company more than people’s. So you can imagine, how hard it was for me to study and not be able to own a cat. But in 2013 I saw the most adorable sphynx kittens and my heart melted. At that very moment I knew, that no matter what, I want them. And so everything worked out just perfectly, and two adorable sisters came to live to my home and my heart.

And here comes the crafty part of it. Because Finland is quite famous for it’s cold weather, it was obvious, that those naked babies will need clothes. I knew, how to knit and didn’t lack ideas, so decided to try to make everything myself. I paid especially careful attention, that all the details wouldn’t be dangerous for cats (something, that they couldn’t swallow, choke, etc.) as well as the sweater itself would be comfortable and warm. And with constant experimenting many beautiful comfy sweaters were born and kept my kitties warm from autumn to spring.

Creating is like a game to me. A game, which I enjoy a lot, because I am the one, who makes the rules. By saying that I mean, that no matter what kind of a wild idea I’d come up with, I can do it. I never look at it as if it was my job to make these sweaters to all the beautiful kitties. It’s my hobby, which I enjoy to the fullest. That’s why the sweaters I make can be very different from each others, but they all meet simple and at the same time very important criteria: safety, comfortability, warmth, uniqueness and versatility. And by saying versatility, I don’t mean only the appearance of the sweaters. Sometimes they can play not only the important part of providing warmth or sun protection for your kitty, but also preventing the cat from licking/scratching the wounds on the belly, back, neck, etc.

I believe that as much as it is important for us to wear something, that we like and feel comfortable in, it is also very important to give the same criteria for our furry or naked friends.

Somewhere over the rainbow…

Believe it or not, but I haven’t seen the rainbow yet! Yep, it’s already the middle of June, which is sort of the middle of the year 2015, but no rainbows are seen through my windows so far. And if you don’t see your life in a rainbowy perspective, then make yourself one! And that’s exactly what I did.

I’ve always loved working with bright colors. And while something super colorful and bright doesn’t always look great on people, it always looks simply adorable on animals. And this is how the rainbow sweater was born. I was checking out this yarn for a while already, but often for various reasons (like “Oh, but I have quite a few orders to fulfill and there’s no time”, “But I have so much of other yarn, that’s waiting to be used…”) I refused buying it. But around a month ago, when I was buying more yarn for the most popular sweaters, I just decided to screw all the silly reasons and bought it. And bit by bit the rainbow sweater was born.

Beliza

Beautiful Beliza and her super purrfesional modeling.

Because of the bright colors I wanted to keep the design really simple, because it’s very easy to overdo things. And in this case saying “less is more” works just perfectly. Though I played a bit with the neckline: it can be worn just straight up like in the pictures below, or it can be bent down like in the picture above. I personally like both variations and what you choose depends only on your and your cat’s taste.

The sweater is available for purrrchasing right over here: Rainbow sweater.

And here are some pictures from “behind the scenes”, or what buyers don’t actually see. I try to make every single photoshoot as comfortable for the cat as possible. And believe me – they love it! Who wouldn’t love to play with their favorite toys and get very nom nom treats?

Sneaking…

Don’t you interrupt me! I’m busy, don’t you see???

Sunny wind, braids and peonies

Sunny wind – that’s exactly what’s been happening over here for the past week. Lots of wind, lots of sun, warmth – not so much. But again I can’t really complain about that as I wasn’t outside that much really – all the moving stuff and the need to have a beautiful (and clean!) apartment is really taking over and consuming most of my time. BUT it still doesn’t prevent me from having some free time to knit. And, well, let’s be fair – I have to have time to knit, because I have quite a few orders to fulfill.

Actually, I am surprised, that I still manage to not only fulfill the orders in time, but also create something new. Yep, it’s the braided sweater you see in the picture below, which is gracefully modeled by my precious kitty Bacha. Sometimes there just comes time, when you get tired of knitting the same sweaters again and again, so it’s a good way to let your mind escape to the new, still uncovered fields.

1

I’ve had this yarn for what seems ages, but I simply couldn’t come up with any pattern that would actually satisfy me and show all the beautiful colors. So I was looking through all those beautiful different patterns and eventually I decided to stick to classics – braids. They are simple, yet beautiful and give the sweater nice softness and coziness.

This sweater is sold out.

And while I’ve been editing the pictures, cats were enjoying the sun and peace. God, they make me so sleepy!

It’s actually so funny, when Bacha is constantly doing this:

bacha pp

Yep, she does the same thing everywhere, including the car. I still remember people’s faces, when they saw some strange being staring at them through the car windows. I also remember, how one of my friends asked, if it’s a kangaroo. Yep, Bacha really is a kangaroo, isn’t it obvious? 🙂

Anyway, I had some time today to actually sneak out to the shop and I just couldn’t leave it, when I saw it. Yes, it’s peonies. I have some very good nostalgic memories related to them as both my mother and grandmother love these flowers and grow them as long as I can remember. Such gorgeous, deep color.

peonies pp

And while I was writing this post, my other Sphynx cat Beliza was constantly meowing, purring and seeking for attention. Yes, if you have a Sphynx cat, you will never be alone. EVER.
